Training Program

Health & Background Requirements

A physical examination and medical history showing you're free from conditions that might create risk. TB (tuberculin) test or x‑ray if needed. CDPH+2CNEI+2

Live Scan fingerprinting background check (criminal record clearance). Â

Application & Exam

Submit the initial application (CDPH 283B) and the Live Scan form (BCIA 8016) prior to or during enrollment. Â

Pass a competency evaluation exam (written and skills portion) after your training is complete. CDPH+1

Certificate Issuance
Once you pass the exam and all documentation (health, background, training) are approved, CDPH issues your CNA certificate. CDPH+1 -
Renewal / Continuing Education

To renew, you must complete 48 hours of in‑service training or Continuing Education Units (CEUs) every 2 years. Â

40 Hour HHA Training Program:

120 Hour HHA Training Program:
For those who may not have a CNA or want a more extensive training. This includes 120 total hours with a portion being classroom theory and a portion in clinical practice. CDPH

Renewal / Continuing Education

HHA certificates must be renewed; part of the renewal includes completing 24 hours of in‑service training or CEUs within the two‑year certification period. At least 12 of those hours in each year.
